01/06/2011 sacffolding
this video was made from one of the lectures from unitec, it shows how to set up our scaffolding, what to use etc, ... today we carried on from yesterday, but got it all done. we finally finished some parts of our scaffolding.
31/05/2011 bracing of the walls
swivel clamps
fixed/standard brace
connectors
single coupler
putlogs
today we kinda carried on from yesterday, how we used dogger blocks and string line to square of the walls of the house, so we used the same method from yesterday and did it to the top plate, we adjusted the wall into place and then braced it to the ground using our ceiling battens, which was quiet alot, that helped to brace it so it wouldnt move out of place, once that was finish, a couple of the boys and i had to go grap some 2.4m of pipes for our scaffolding, we went and set up richards one first, learnt some new things on scaffolding, how to connect the pipes the right way, which brace to use to help hold the pipes, learnt what a swivel, fixed, connectors etc were, learnt what a sole pate was and a metal sole plate.

30/05/2011 wall frames,
today we carried on from last week, carried on with our wall frames, marty marked out where the metal straps will go on, which will be nailed to the boundary joist, bottom plate and stud, first we used an router which digged into the boundary joist, bottom plate and stud, it went in 5mm, so we can attach the metal straps to it and nail it using clouts which were i think 20-25mm, nailed it in to the wall. it will hold everything in place like the walls. then we started to brace the walls, using the ceiling battens which was useful, we nailed the timber to the stud but at the top which was between the lintel and the top plate, or just to the stud, then nailed it to the ground to prevent that wall frame from moving out of place. we used string line, and dogger blocks to help us brace the wall, the dogger blocks were probably like 20-25mm thick, we nailed an 100mm galvanized flat head to the bottom plate at the corner of the wall then nailed the dogger block next to it so we can set up the string line and make and carry the line to the other wall and do the same thing, the gap between the wall was probably 20-25mm? not to sure so we used the left over dogger blocks to go in between those gaps, if the string line didnt touch the dogger block, we had to adjust it to make it straight, so we can nail the bottom plates to the floor the spacing for the nails were 600mm, did that through out the whole day, making sure the walls were straight.

25/05/2011 making wall frames
today we were in class fr about 2periods going over buit 4543, going over roofs, like webbing roofs and struts and ties, erection and fixing- gable roofs, hip or semi gable, line, etc... going over how to make a roof and what is needed and how to set it up and where to put ur studs, noggs, double top plate, ceiling battens, purlins etc.. after lunch break, we headed down to the site, having our little tool box talk .. richard and marty went over how to do the wall framing, how to do the bearers, where to put the noggs in, the studs, how far apart the studs and nogz wer,... we started of by measuring the 7 studs for our wall framing, 2420mm, two of the studs had packers between them , measured out the top and bottom plate placed both studs into place then nailed it to the studs, we then inserted our nogz in place, we had 2 rows of nogz between each stud and nailed them in, after that we had to laminate 2 timebers together for our lintel then put that at the top, then we inserted an metal brace going from one corner to the other, we used the skill saw to cut how deep the metal brace will go into the wall frames, then nailed it in.. we made 2 wall frames then stood them up and put them where they were suppose to go, it took us a while to fit it into place but at the end it looked good.
