30/05/2011 wall frames,
today we carried on from last week, carried on with our wall frames, marty marked out where the metal straps will go on, which will be nailed to the boundary joist, bottom plate and stud, first we used an router which digged into the boundary joist, bottom plate and stud, it went in 5mm, so we can attach the metal straps to it and nail it using clouts which were i think 20-25mm, nailed it in to the wall. it will hold everything in place like the walls. then we started to brace the walls, using the ceiling battens which was useful, we nailed the timber to the stud but at the top which was between the lintel and the top plate, or just to the stud, then nailed it to the ground to prevent that wall frame from moving out of place. we used string line, and dogger blocks to help us brace the wall, the dogger blocks were probably like 20-25mm thick, we nailed an 100mm galvanized flat head to the bottom plate at the corner of the wall then nailed the dogger block next to it so we can set up the string line and make and carry the line to the other wall and do the same thing, the gap between the wall was probably 20-25mm? not to sure so we used the left over dogger blocks to go in between those gaps, if the string line didnt touch the dogger block, we had to adjust it to make it straight, so we can nail the bottom plates to the floor the spacing for the nails were 600mm, did that through out the whole day, making sure the walls were straight.
